RCA Small Wonder Video Camcorder ReviewInexpensive camcorder with high quality output
The RCA Small Wonder EZ101 digital camcorder is supposed to offer the same basic functionality of those more expensive digital camcorders but without the high price tag. Now I am one of those folks who looks for shortcuts that will help me get through my day and this camcorder looked like a good solution for those times where I wanted to capture some video but I didn’t want to lug around “the bag.”
The “bag” is the one you have in your closet that contains that expensive camcorder that you probably only used a couple of times, the cables, battery pack and a host of other accessories that you may need someday. With the RCA Small Wonder EZ101 digital camcorder, you can experience camcorder capabilities but without the need for “the bag.” Here is a closer look at the RCA Small Wonder EZ101 digital camcorder.
The Small Wonder with Big Expectations
The EZ101 uses two double AA batteries, which some with the device. Once you have accomplished that, you’re ready to record. Now that was easy, right?
The EZ101 is almost exactly the same size as an Apple iPod. The device is small enough to fit into your shirt pocket as well. On the back of the camcorder, you will find a 1.5-inch color LCD display. Beneath that, you will find the power, play and delete buttons along with the volume/zoom pad in the center. The red button in the center of the volume/zoom pad is your recording button. Along the side of the EZ101, you will find a USB control arm that you can release by pulling down on the button below the arm. If your USB port is in a tough spot that you can’t directly connect the EZ101 to, then you can use the enclosed USB cable to make the connection.
You will notice a slot opening at the top of the EZ101 and even though there is no mention of its purpose in the manual, this opening is for downloading using Pure Digital technology. There is also a TV jack so you can connect the device to your TV using the AV cable that is included.
The volume/ zoom pad has a dual purpose, during recording and playback. During recording, you can push up on the pad to zoom in on your subject or press down to zoom out. During playback, pushing up will increase the playback volume and pushing down will decrease playback volume. You don
To record, just point the camcorder towards your subject and press the red button on the back. You can adjust the view by pressing up or down on the center pad on the back to adjust the camcorder’s zoom. You will notice a timer will appear in the upper left part of the LCD screen. This is to show you how much time your current video recording has used so far. The EZ101 will keep track of how much time you have left to record so you should never run out of time even with the 30-minute recording limitation. When you finish recording your subject, just click the red button again to stop recording.
To playback, just click on the Play button to the left of the center pad. Press the Play button again to stop the playback. As you play each clip, it will display the length of the clip on the LCD screen.
To delete the video clip, just have the clip display in the LCD display and click the Delete button to the right of the center pad. One click of the delete button will prompt you whether you want to delete the file and the second click of the button will delete the file. You will see that once the file is deleted, the EZ101 will recalculate the recording time left.
The EZ101 utilizes Pure Digital technology. You can either transfer your video to your computer using the device’s USB port or through the USB cable that comes with the EZ101. If you don’t have access your own USB port, you can visit a Pure Digital location such as your local pharmacy or camera shop and you can transfer your video to DVD there.
